Nuaire Flatmaster Ventilation Unit - For properties with no loft space

100mm diameter / 121x60mm interchangeable spigots supplied with the unit

The unit is designed to take fresh air from outside, clean the air and discharge it into the central hallway via a system of ducts.

The dwelling';s internal air discharge grille is usually installed at a high level in a central location within the hallway, although discharging the air down the length of the hallway (away from the front door) should also prove acceptable. Unit performance may be enhanced if an existing heat source can warm the discharged air, e.g. by locating the discharge grille above a radiator.

Based on the popular and low-energy Positive Input Ventilation principle which Nuaire invented in 1972, the Flatmaster range has been specifically designed to ventilate homes without lofts. The system introduces air into the home at a continuous low rate, eliminating condensation dampness and forcing our indoor pollutants such as Radon gas and carbon monoxide.

The aesthetically pleasing and compact unit is usually situated in a convenient location, such as a kitchen cupboard or hallway, and is ducted to a central location. Multi-positional spigots allow for quicker installation with only one external wall penetration.

    Features & Benefits:

    • Cures condensation dampness - PIV removes humidity from the air, preventing mould growth and controlling dust-mite allergens.
    • Improves indoor air quality - indoor pollutants from cooking and cleaning are removed while outdoor pollutants including pollen and Radon gas are kept out.
    • Meets Regulations - meets Part F & L of Building Regulations as a low-energy ventilation strategy.
    • Extremely low power consumption - as low as 3 watts.
    • Easy installation and very low maintenance - filter clean or replacement every 18 months
    • Optional heater facility - to provide additional heat to the incoming air if required.
    • 5-year warranty - for peace of mind.

    area

This is to be installed in a flat can you tell me what is the area covered please

    Question by Alan Haldane, 25-05-2015

Suitable for up to standard 2/3 bedroom flats where all rooms lead off of a central hallway where unit incoming air is discharged into.

The unit has a choice of three speeds to suit the size of thedwelling and the moisture being generated. The unit is factory set atNo 3. We recommend that the unit is operated at this speed and thesetting reduced if and when necessary in the future.

    nuaire flatmaster

would this unit take heat from the flat ?

    Question by john clark, 07-11-2015

    Hello John

Thank you for your question. The unit is designed to take fresh air from outside, clean the air and discharge it into the central hallway via a system of ducting. If you need to extract heat then an inline fan maybe better for your application. These can be found under in-line fans on our website. Alternatively  give me a call on 0208 463 9683 and I will be able to help you further

    Flatmaster 2000 with integral heater

Do you sell this product with the integral heater? How much is it?

    Question by Julie Thomas, 24-02-2016

    Hello Julie,

We do indeed supply the unit with an integral heater. Please see our listings for the Nuaire Flatmaster 2000L and Nuaire Flatmaster 2000R for product details and pricing.

Please note that unlike the standard Flatmaster the Flatmaster 2000 model is a 'handed' unit and you need to make sure you are purchasing the correct model for your installation.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to give me a call on 0208 463 9670

    Kind regards,

    Michael

    Flatmaster with integral heater

Hi, thanks for your response but I believe there is one with an integral heater where you don't have to worry about R or L? this one ODG/ref=s9_simh_gw_p60_d1_i1?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=desktop-1&pf_rd_r=08F5K3E21TDT3GGEJBME&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=577048787&pf_rd_i=desktop

    Question by Julie Thomas, 24-02-2016

    Hello Julie,

I am afraid the link you have enclosed is not a valid link format. However, if you would like to resend the full URL I would be happy to take a look at.

However I can confirm that the Nuaire Flatmaster 2000 always is sold by the manufacturer as either a left or right handed unit, as this refers to the position of the heater element.

Because of the shape of the unit (It is slightly curved one side and has a wall-mounting on the other) it is not possible to simply flip the unit around.

The only Nuaire unit with a 'non-handed' heater is the Drimaster Heat loft-mounted positive pressure unit. Perhaps this is the unit you are referring to? The unit is aethestically different but uses a very similar principle.

    Kind regards,

    Michael

    Flatmaster 2000 with integral heater

This is the link, it doesn't mention left or right?? http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007NW5ODG

    Question by Julie Thomas, 24-02-2016

    Hello Julie,

That seems to be a oversight on the part of the company who have listed the product for sale on Amazon (Twistfix or Bloc Electrical).

The unit is always supplied from the manufacturer in either left-handed or right-handed version. This can be confirmed by viewing the installation instructions available from the manufacturer's website (Viewable online here).

The difference is illustrated on our webshop in these two animated graphics showing airflow direction and heater positon.

    Left Handed FM2000L

    Right Handed FM2000R

If you can advise me further regarding your planned installation I would be happy to advise which is best for your application - These units are in our top ten best sellers so I have advised many happy customers in the past and would be happy to offer my expertise.

    Kind regards,

    Michael

Is it left or right ducted?

I see the flatmaster 2000 is left or right ducted but as the option is not available on this model is it left or right ducted into the indoor space?

    Question by Julian, 06-04-2016

    Hello Julian,

Unlike the Flatmaster 2000 model, you do not need to purchase a 'handed' version of the standard Flatmaster. Instead, the direction of airflow is configured at the time of installation by fitting a deflection plate which comes as standard.

Please see the downloadable PDF installation instructions, available here for full details (http://www.i-sells.co.uk/fdm_download_file.php?fileid=283)

    Ducting

Do you have to fit the ducting un the outward part and take the ducting into the hallway or can I install it in a bedroom and just fit a vent on it to serve the bedroom area only where the condensation is at it's worse

    Question by Neil, 24-05-2016

    Hello Neil,

    Thank you for your question.

Yes you can fit the standard Flatmaster unit  in the bedroom with the air supply grille. The incoming air will create a continuous fresh air change within the bedroom.

The existing air within the bedroom has to be able to escape from the room via:
         a)  An existing air brick in the bedroom  wall.
         b) Via a passive air brick or vent grille between the Bedroom and Hall.
         or
         c) Via a 20mm gap to the under side door of Bedroom and Hall.

If you are fitting the Flatmaster unit with heater (NUAFM2000L or NUAFM2000R) you have to run a 500mm minimum length of ducting from the unit in accordance with the manufactures recommendations.

If you have any further questions I am happy to answer or you can contact me by phone DDN: 020 8463 9696

    Outlet

Hi, Does the unit require an inlet and outlet to the outside? basicaly will it require two holes being bored in walls

    Question by Philip Payne, 11-07-2016

    Hello Philip

Thank you for your question. This unit is a positive pressure unit and not a heat recovery unit so only requires one hole . The unit is designed to take fresh air from outside, clean the air and discharge it into the central hallway via a system of ducting.

The dwelling's internal air discharge grille is usually installed at a high level in a central location within the hallway, although discharging the air down the length of the hallway (away from the front door) should also prove acceptable. which one to buy

Hi, i need to install a unit in a small one bed flat, that suffers badly from condensation. Would this unit be sufficient or should i get the version with the heater. Thanks

    Question by Philip Payne, 12-07-2016

    Hello Philip

The immediate answer to your question is yes the product will be sufficient and yes we would recommend the Heater option.

However, we would like to help you choose the correct product for your requirement and  I am inclined to question why  the flat suffers from condensation and is there something  else that can be done to relieve the problem.

So, if you have time, could you answer the following?

Do you live there or is it rented out?

Ground, 1st - 2nd floor etc does it have a balcony?

What ventilation do you currently have in the kitchen and bathroom and how do they work (ie don't have any mechanical ventilation, fans manually operated, light activated, humidistat control etc)

Is the problem throughout the dwelling or appearing in a particular room?

Has condensation always been a problem or has it appeared recently?

Should you want clarification on why these answers may help I can be contacted on 07956 818138

    suitable for internal garage conversion

I have converted part of my garage and need to provide some ventilation as per building control. Does this system need to be fitted to an outside wall?

    Question by lisa, 09-09-2016

    Hello Lisa

The system draws air from outside so needs to be located as close to the supply point as it can be, if however there are location issues there is no reason that it can't be connected to a short run of ducting, though bear in mind the shorter the better.
    I hope this helps

on the knockout entry points on the back, how does the 100mm tube attach? thanks

    Question by derek hicks, 05-04-2017

The unit is supplied with alternative spigot plate connections so the rear blanking plate is removed and used to block the side entry while the spigot of choice is installed in the rear entry point.

    Bathroom

Hi, we have a 3 bedroom basement flat/garden flat. Our bathroom is situated in the middle of the flat, would it be ok to install the flatmaster were the old vent has been put in the bathroom? Bathroom door is usually left open. Am I also right in believing that it does not need to be heated as we live there and will not turn it off? Many thanks Debra

    Question by Debra May, 24-05-2017

    Hi Debra

If this means that you would deprive the bathroom of its extraction fan we would advise against.
PIV is designed to work with adequate extraction from moisture producing rooms (kitchen, bathroom and utility rooms).
There is also an issue with where the unit would be located in relation to the bath or shower as there are zone regulations regarding electrical appliances in bathrooms and the Flatmaster is not a SELV rated unit.
There is no problem with locating the unit in another room provided the air supply can be ducted to a central area such as the hallway so that the air moves throughout the dwelling.
If you need clarification on this please do not hesitate to call me on 07956 818138.

    Suitable to ventilate bedroom

Would this unit be suitable to bring fresh air from outside to ventilate a spare bedroom with large (former shopfront) window which doesn`t open? Would it be quiet enough?

    Question by Sally Coade, 20-06-2017

    Hello Sally

This system is suitable for the provision of fresh air to a central area such as a hallway in a flat or bungalow which would then filter air throughout several rooms, it would therefore be over powerful for a single room and at the same time underused as air would not reach other areas.
If it is just ventilation for one room that is required we would probably recommend the single room heat recovery ventilator K-HRV150

    length of ducting

Hi, Is there a limit to the total length of ducting used with the Flatmaster?

    Question by Matt, 15-08-2017

    Hi Matt

Ducting kits for the flat master usually consist of 3 x 1m lengths and some 90 degree bends. As a bend offers the same resistance as a metre of duct this indicates that the manufacturer is happy for the Flat master to be ducted however, there will be a point at which a certain length will affect the performance so as a guide we would recommend 6 metres maximum if straight, if adding 90 degree bends reduce the length by a metre for each bend.

Where to position & recommended installer

We have black mould appearing in a flat that previously had no issues, although major works were carried out by the local authority and new tenants moved in at the same time. This is a maisonette and the problem is present in the bedrooms. Should we install this upstairs, as this is where the problem lies and can you please recommend a local installer for SW8 - what is the average cost to install? Many thanks

    Question by Indira Kissoon, 22-01-2019

    Hello Indira

The recommended location for the input would be in the stairwell or landing.  A highly recommended company is Dampworks - 01689 637972 ask for Carol or Tony. We would recommend you speak to them first regarding a cost for supplying and fitting the Flatmaster as they may need to view the intended installation first.

    Bungalow

I have a problem with bad condensation/mould in my 2 bed bungalow. Can this unit be installed in a cupboard or does it need to be installed on an outside wall ?

    Question by Annie BARNES, 01-02-2019

    Hello Annie

The unit can be installed in a cupboard or closet as long as it can be ducted to outside or possibly in your case the fresh air could be drawn from the loft, it could then supply air to a central area through a vent in the cupboard. A particularly good location for the unit would be an airing or hot water tank cupboard.
