does this product shut with gravity,or is it spring loaded, is it floppy when its windy
Hello John,
The item does not contain a spring and therefore pivots based on gravity and fan pressure.
The shutter is designed to only open one way and therefore the item will not flap 'backwards' due to the wind, although if there is more pressure on one side than is being generated by teh fan your shutter may struggle to open.
Kind regards,
Michael
Does this need to be inserted in a horizontal duct or can it work in a vertical run. Also can it be fiited at the intake side of the fan? Thanks.
Hello Bryan
Thank you for your question. Yes the backdraught shutter has to be installed horizontal. If installed vertically it would be open all the time. I would recommend it to be installed just before going out though the wall.
I have a 125mm/6" extractor fan ducted out through the outer wall - Are you going to or plan to supply this product for a 6" duct. All the kitchen fans I have used are 6" this would be great if you did
Hello Simon
Thank you for your question. We do supply this item the product code for this item is QS282 this is a 6" backdraught shutter you stated 125mm which is 5" we also do a backdraught shutter in this size the product code for this item is QS269.
I have handled these products before and know how delicate the gravity hinged-flaps can be. Answer 2 states 'cannot be used in vertical run'. Does this not apply to downward pumped flow only? My duct flows upwards to a pitched roof outlet. From memory, the shutter would fall shut, even better than in the horizontal position. Am I right please? Alternatively can you recommend a sprung-shutter type of the same outside diameter? Thank you.
Hello Gordon
Thank you for your question. The backdraught shutter design has now been updated so this product can now be fitted vertically where as before the shutter would stay open on a vertical install.
If I can help any further please do not hesitate to contact me
Kind Regards
Anita
Hullo. Please could you tell me if I could use DUCVKC303 (with a short section of 100mm pipe) to effectively lengthen the male section of a standard 100mm ceiling extraction fan? I need to connect a fan (not yet purchased) to an existing flexible hose (presumably 102mm) which has tears in the first 50mm, so an extended connection length might allow me to bypass this and achieve a reasonable seal, as well as have the benefit of the backdraft shutter. Hope this makes sense! Thanks very much for any advice you can offer; I'm ready to order the necessary items from you.
Hello Anthony
Several previous questions relate to this issue but I'm not convinced by the answers. I am installing two fans that will vent through a joint vertical pipe that exits through the roof (near to vertical). The damper flap will therefore rest in the horizontal position on the lip and some force appears to be required to push it open from this position. There are limited options for creating a horizontal run without inserting some right angles, reducing air flow. I want to use a backdraught shutter on both fans, one of which is a trickle fan. Can you assure me that the flap will open sufficiently if installed in a horizontal position within a vertical pipe, on the low flow of air pushed up by the trickle fan.
Hello Karen
Hi Just purchased above item. I have read Q&A but still a bit confused best position. Shower fan in ceiling so duct vertical then horizontal. Could you tell me best position. Thanks
Hi Steve.
