Flatmaster 2000L Left Handed Heater PPU By Nuaire - No-Loft Condensation Control Unit

DETAILS
NUAIRE FLATMASTER 2000L LEFT HANDED POSITIVE PRESSURE UNIT WITH PRE-HEAT FUNCTIONALITY
No loft? No problem - Combat condensation in your property with this powerful Positive Input Ventilation (PIV) unit.
This unit has a heater on the Left-hand side.
When ordering please ensure you choose the correct unit.
Specify whether you want the heater input airflow on the Left (Flatmaster 2000L) or Right side (Flatmaster 2000R).
There are two versions, Left and Right. The version you need will depend on which side of the house/wall the unit can be fitted. Check the above diagram, the heater (Marked in red) should always be pointing to the inside of the house. See the Flatmaster 2000R Right Unit. The unit is designed to take fresh air from outside, clean the air, warm it (if fitted with heater) and discharge it into the central hallway via a system of ducting supplied by the installer. The dwelling internal air discharge grille is usually installed at a high level in a central location within the hallway, although discharging the air down the length of the hallway (away from the front door) should also prove acceptable.
Unit performance may be enhanced if an existing heat source can warm the discharged air eg. by locating the discharge grille above a radiator.
If additional heating of the incoming air is required e.g. during very cold weather, the integral heater can be used to distribute filtered, warmed air throughout the property.Based on the popular and low-energy Positive Input Ventilation principle which Nuaire invented in 1972, the Flatmaster 2000 range has been specifically designed to ventilate homes without lofts. The unit is fitted with an integral heater which can provide additional heating when required during very cold weather.
The PIV system introduces air into the home at a continuous low rate, eliminating condensation dampness and forcing our indoor pollutants such as Radon gas and carbon monoxide. The results are a fresh and healthy indoor environment.
The aesthetically pleasing and compact unit is usually situated in a convenient location, such as a kitchen cupboard or hallway, and is ducted to a central location. Multi-positional spigots allow for quicker installation with only one external wall penetration.
Features & Benefits:
- Cures condensation dampness - PIV removes humidity from the air, preventing mould growth and controlling dust-mite allergens.
- Improves indoor air quality - pollutants are removed while outdoor pollutants including pollen and Radon gas are kept to a minimum.

#1SwitchingI have had a FLATMASTER 2000L installed today, I notice there is a red switch on the right hand side is this the switch for the heater?
Question by Gerry McCrossan, 28-04-2015Hi Gerry,
Yes it is, your Flatmaster 2000L has a manual switch for turning off the 300 watt heater. It can be useful in the summertime.Replied by i-sells, 28-04-2015#2Nuaire flatmasterAre they fairly simple to install or do I need an electrician.
Question by Eileen OHara, 17-07-2015Hello Eileen,
The unit is very simple to install but we would always recommend that any electrical work carried out in your property is carried out by a qualified electrician to the correct standards, no matter the complexity of the work involved.
Full fitting instructions for the unit can be viewed here for your reference: http://www.i-sells.co.uk/fdm_file_detail.php?file_id=170
Kind regards,
MichaelReplied by i-sells, 17-07-2015#3InstallationCan the 2000L or 2000R be installed rotated 90 degrees so the inlet and discharge ducts are vertical? My inlet duct may have to come from under the floor. Thanks
Question by Andrew, 22-10-2015Hello Andrew,
Yes it can be mounted vertically but please note that the performance will depend on how far the air will travel to and from the Flatmaster. The duct run should be about 3-4 metres at most, the shorter the duct run, the better the performance. Before installing or ordering the unit, I would suggest you call our technical team, they will be able to confirm if this is the right unit for you. You can reach us on 0208 463 9696.Also, please see the Installation Instruction and page two for the typical installation diagram.Replied by i-sells, 23-10-2015#4Flatmaster 2000 which versionHow do I know whether I need a left or right side version? Is the duct into the flat best installed very close to a wall? I have a flat that has a small hallway with a false ceiling above it, can I install the unit in that space? And duct to outside for incoming air and into the kitchen (rather than the small hallway, as there is a door inbetween hallway and kitchen) for output? Thank you
Question by Corinna Hauff, 07-12-2015Hello Corinna,
The quickest way to explain would be to compare the two diagrams on the Flatmaster 2000L and Flatmaster 2000R listings, but I think it might be best for me to give you a quick call to explain and to discuss your other points.Do you have a direct number that I could contact you on, and when might it be suitable to call?
Kind regards,
Michael

Michael.Gallagher@i-sells.co.ukReplied by i-sells, 07-12-2015#5Vent DuctingHi, what size rectangular ducting can be used with this system? What ducting adapters are provided with the unit?
Question by Brian Bullen, 31-01-2016Hello Brian
Thank you for your question.
As shown in the picture the unit is provided with optional spigots for use with either Kair System 100 Round Ducting (100mm) or Kair System 100 Rectangular Ducting (110mm x 54mm).
Both systems can be viewed here
We also are able to supply a packaged ducting kit for the Nuaire Flatmaster. The product code is QS38873 and can be viewed here

Anita & MichaelReplied by i-sells, 01-02-2016#6Is this suitable for 90m2 flat?I live in a top floor 2 BR flat with a mezzanine floor overlooking the lounge, high ceilings throughout, approx 90m2. Would this be sufficient for that kind of space? Is there anything I need to consider given that it's two floors? Thanks, Peter
Question by Peter, 07-07-2016Hello Peter
In order to answer your question I need to ask several more??
Does the floor area (90m2) include the upper and lower levels?
Do you have a loft space?
What existing ventilation do you have in the kitchen and bathroom/s and how are each activated?
Are you investigating this unit for improved air quality or do you have a condensation / mould growth problem to eradicate?
How many occupants reside in the property?
Apologies for the interrogation but the answers will help.
Regards
Ian
Replied by i-sells, 08-07-2016#7Can I fit the flat master without an outlet and just an inletCan i fit the flat master without an outlet but just using an inlet with air coming from outside. I want to install this in the small hallway as space in an issue??
Question by Yawar Sheikh, 23-07-2016Hi YawarThe Nuaire Flat master must have a dedicated supply duct from free air and the input is best located at a central area to the affected property such as a hallway,I am going to forward a copy of the datasheet for your information.RegardsIanReplied by i-sells, 25-07-2016#8maintenanceHi, we have this type of product in our ground floor flat, does it need any sort of maintenance? as it sounds a little sqeaky when its quiet at night ( like a hamster going around in a wheel) and we wernt sure if to oil anything ? Thanks for your help Sarah
Question by sarah coombes, 29-09-2016Hi Sarah
The system is very low maintenance but does have filters inside and if these are not cleaned or changed (manufacturers recommendation every 18 months) it may put strain on the motor or allow seepage of dust into the motor which would probably produce a noise as you describe. If the unit was installed before you moved in look on the machine for any identification of who installed it, they may provide a servicing package.Replied by i-sells, 29-09-2016#9Council propertyThis is very expensive and if I bought one I'd probably only ever be able to afford one. So if I had it fit in my flat but at some point moved to a different flat would I be able to take this unit from one flat and then have it installed in the new one?
Question by Cheryl corker, 06-11-2016Hello Cheryl,
The unit is designed to be a fixed solution inside a property, rather than a portable temporary solution.
However, in theory, as long as it was installed in an accessible way the ducting could be disconnected and the unit moved between properties by a qualified electrician (New ducting may need to be purchased). Under no circumstances should the unit itself be dismantled, as this will invalidate the warranty.
As this unit is a 'handed' unit (With the heater on a certain side) you would need to know that the unit could be fitted on the same facing in the other property.
As you say it is a council property I would advise to check with the council housing officer whether they would allow the installation first before proceeding, as they may require permission from the free holder.
Kind regards,
MichaelReplied by i-sells, 08-11-2016#10FlatmasterCan the inlet be installed adjacent to a gas boiler outlet?Perhaps you could indicate the minimum measurement from one to another. Can a bend be used to solve this potential problem?
Question by Colin Armstrong, 20-12-2016Hello ColinThis would appear to be covered by BS5440 / C1 which recommends a minimum distance of 300mm between a flue and a lateral 'vent opening' however, this does not appear to take into account an actual air intake point for PIV or MVHR and does not seem to have been updated to account for this type of system. There is some useful information and guidance in the document link below which appears more inclined to recommend the redirection of the flue gases by installing a Plume Management Kit, with the additional warning of, if installing one, not compromising air intakes or vents in neighbouring properties. If there is little choice remember that gas plumes are warm and tend to disperse in an upward direction so any intakes should be lower than any exhaust although we are of the opinion that 300mm is still too close and a plume management kit may be the safer option if only that it would need to be installed by a Gas Safe engineer.http://www.a1gassafe.co.uk/pdf/TECHNICAL_BULLETIN_231.pdfReplied by i-sells, 21-12-2016#12why left or rightdo i need a unit in each room of 2 bedroom flat do ineed a package of fitments, and do they need to come with a heater, yours a steele
Question by andrew steele, 05-01-2017Hello Andrew
The left or right handed heater is required depending on the location of the unit, the heater should be at the input point so if the system is drawing fresh air from the left spigot you need a right handed heater and vice versa. The system is designed for flats and smaller dwellings so one unit should be sufficient for your application and it should supply to a central part of the dwelling (eg hallway?) so that air will move through the dwelling into other rooms. Please note that it is designed to work with wet room ventilation such as bathroom and kitchen extraction systems and not compensate for the lack of adequate ventilation in these areas. If the unit cannot be located in a central area a ducting kit may be required to direct the air into it.Replied by i-sells, 06-01-2017#13SwitchingHello. I'm advised to fit one of these in my 63sq metre flat for ventilation. I see that it has a switch for the heater element, but is it also possible to switch the unit on and off. I know it is designed for continuous running, but in the summer my flat is adequately ventilated.
Question by Leslie, 14-02-2017Hello LeslieThe unit is supplied with a 2 speed switch (trickle / boost) and is recommended to be wired via a fused spur. If you have your electrician wire it to a switched spur this will be an on/off facility.Replied by i-sells, 14-02-2017#14DampHi I have had one of these units fitted and it has been connected to a light switch, which my hall way light needs left on all the time is this correct ? As I feel I have been ripped of.
Question by Mrs Heddon, 03-05-2017Hello Mrs Heddon
Thank you for your question. This is incorrect. The unit can be wired to the lighting circuit but at a separate junction with separate box. It also needs to have a its own isolated switch. If you require any further help please do not hesitate to contact me on 0208 463 9683 Or Nuaire on 02920858500Kind RegardsAnitaReplied by i-sells, 04-05-2017#15Heater functionDoes the heater run constantly when switched on or does the unit have a temperature probe and switch the heater on / off as required according to the temperature of the air drawn from outdoor.
Question by Rupesh, 17-05-2017Hi Rupesh
The in-line heater is, incoming air, temperature activated and the thermostat controlling when the heater is activated / deactivated can be programmed at the time of installation and re-programmed at a later stage.Replied by i-sells, 17-05-2017#16inlet distanceYour Installation Guide says the unit should be installed as close as possible to the inlet vent. I have a situation where I can install as close as 0.5 m to the vent but will make the possibility of maintenance impossible. I can install with a duct 1.1m from the inlet, will that have an effect on the performance of the unit. Regards, Sandy P.
Question by Sandy Paton, 30-07-2017Hello Sandy
That distance will have no adverse effect on performance though we would probably recommend boxing in or insulating the inlet duct if possible.Replied by i-sells, 31-07-2017#17ShippingCan you ship to Greece. Naturally I would expect a shipping charge.

I am curious (as a retired engineer) how the unit performs when outdoors is at 100% or very high humidity, withoiut drawing more moisture into the property. Regards Chuck
Question by Chuck Taylor, 24-11-2017Hello Chuck
Thank you for your question, I will try to answer as best I can without refferring to technical jargon.
We are lucky that the UK is in a temperate zone, as far as weather extremes are concerned, and 100% humidity may be achievable in the tropics but not here. This is because humidity is relative to temperature, the warmer the air the greater the capacity to retain water vapour, it is conditions like this that make us feel hot, clammy and uncomfortable.
Even after rainfall we do not generally reach these very high levels of humidity because evaporation of rainwater after a fall iscreated less by evaporation through heat but is usually caused through air drying due to increased airmovement from wind (same effect as drying clothes on a line).
However, let's imagine it is cool enough that we want to put the heating on and keep all of the windows and doors shut, if the incoming air has an outside humidity of 75% at 7 degrees, when introduced to warm environment of 21 degrees the percentage of water vapour to air (RH) will fall. The only time incoming humidity would be a problem would be if the outside air temperature was higher and had a high RH and this air was introduced to a much cooler house, as then RH would rise. As mentioned earlier, this is very rare in a temperate zone.
In short the equipment works in the same way, continuous air change prevents build up of internal humidity and movement causes drying of surface moisture and prevents stagnant damp air pockets.
Replied by i-sells, 24-11-2017#21HumidistatHi I have a Drimaster installed at a rental property which has an inbuilt heater with thermostat and is controlled by a remote Humidistat so is only activated above pre-set humidity level. I need a Flatmaster for another property without loft space. I can't find reference to Humidistat control for Flatmaster. Do you supply/recommend one?
Question by paul, 19-01-2019Hello Paul
Thank you for your question. I have spoken to Nuaire this morning and they have confirmed that a Humidistat can not be added to this unit as it would in-peed your warranty. If I can help any further please do not hesitate to contact meKind RegardsAnitaReplied by i-sells, 21-01-2019#22Location of unitCan the unit itself be installed in the bathroom receiving the entering air from the external vent and passing the air via ducting thru an inner wall to the hallway . My electrician says it depends on the PI specification of the unit?
Question by John Bounds, 13-03-2019Hello John
Thank you for your questions. I have spoken to Nuaire and they have said that the IP rating for this unit is not applicable also if installing the unit in the bathroom this can be done but is recommended that the unit is boxed in or installed in a cupboard and the ducting from the exit point is near to the outside wall and the ducting from the supply point is fitted into the central point which is the hallway. If I can help any further please do not hesitate to contact meKind RegardsAnitaReplied by i-sells, 15-03-2019#24Renting with a FlatmasterHi, is it possible to switch off the Flatmaster to only run when I want it to, ie. during the day? The noise it makes when running at night is enough to keep me awake, as the landlord has it installed in a bedroom cupboard. Thanks!
Question by Adam, 18-11-2019Hello Adam
Thank you for your question. This unit is continuous running and if switched off will not do what it is suppose to do. It is not recommend that this unit is installed in the bedroom, but if this is the only room with external walls then the unit could be installed within an acoustic lined box. If I can help any further please do not hesitate to contact meKind RegardsAnitaReplied by i-sells, 18-11-2019 -
