Nuaire Drimaster Eco Loft Controlled - Condensation Solving Loft Unit

    Nuaire Drimaster Hung Loft Units

The DRI-ECO-LC is our basic unit which provides all of the benefits of Positive Input Ventilation, offering system controls on the unit within the loft space.

Whilst the controls offer variable options, when the Drimaster is installed the system should be set to a speed that is suitable to the property meaning access to the loft is only necessary for the replacement of filters.

The DRIMASTER-ECO range provides whole home ventilation using the Positive Input Ventilation principle, which introduces fresh filtered air into the dwelling at a continuous rate, encouraging movement of air from inside to outside.

A large range of models are available - Please see our table below. Please note, it is not possible to retro-fit a heater to other Drimaster Eco models.

I have bought a total of 11 of these and always found them to be reliable and effective. We recommend them to all our landlords with older houses with solid walls. They pay for themselves within a year with reduced tenant complaints about condensation and mould growth, voids and redecoration costs. Fairly cheap, simple to fit and they do what they say they do.

I could not believe my eyes... Purchased due to bad condensation, with water streaming on all windows. Installed it - easy DIY Job. Next day: Woke up, cold morning 0 degress outside RESULT: Windows were completely bone dry. The Drimaster completely exceeded my expectations, I thought it'd takes weeks and even then i thought results would be limited.

    Nuaire Drimaster eco lc 2016.

Hi could you tell me the outlet size on this unit, I have to split it between two existing vents as I don't have enough space on landing due to loft hatch and smoke detector. I have also found this same unit on eBay for 260, from mould stop. Do you do price matching. Many thanks Michael

    Question by Michael Baxter, 28-10-2016

    Hello Michael

The hole required for the input vent is 200mm
Please note the diffuser should not be less than 1m away from a smoke alarm
and yes we do price match.
    I hope this helps

    Condensation & Damp

My shower suffers from regular mould and damp and has to be cleaned once a week to stop this although the shower is wiped down after every use. Will this unit stop this mould etc. or can you recommend something suitable

    Question by David White, 18-11-2016

    Hello David

The product you have identified is a condensation control system for a whole dwelling and would be suitable if your dwelling suffered from condensation in several rooms.
You have described the problem in your shower only so Q's?.
Do you have mechanical ventilation in the shower room currently?
If yes, how is it activated?
Is it a cubicle in a domestic bathroom or has it been converted to a wet room?
    Does it have external wall/s?
Your description of wiping down surface water yet still have a mould problem indicates that it is relative humidity (RH) that is the cause of the problem. Answers to the above will help us provide a solution.

    Loft condensation

Hello I have condensation in the loft, I have a de-humidifier in there and its collecting over a litre a day, I would like to know if you do a system that actually collects the water and runs it to waster

    Question by David Breirley, 09-01-2017

    Hello David

I would suggest you look up the make and model of the dehum you currently have and see if you can download a datasheet as I believe most reservoir machines already have a continuous drain option.

Your condensation problem in the loft is most likely due to lack of adequate ventilation so checkto ensure that the loft has adequate ventilation. There may be occasions wherea loft is so well sealed that additional ventilation may have to be provided. Ensure that all water tanks are covered and sealed. Checkthat all water pipes are lagged. Ensure that any extract fans are dischargingto outside and not into the loft. Check that the loft hatch is tightly sealed.Ensure that all holes in the ceilings are sealed i.e. ceiling light fittingsetc

Oncethe loft ventilation has been increased or reinstated (rolling back theinsulation at several points or installing sections of open ducting to clear anair path through it) the installation of the Dri Master can go ahead and thethrough flow of air to the void on the way to the dwelling will create airchange and air movement causing surface evaporation and eventual drying of thevoid and the dwelling.

    Airtight home

I am planning on building a new house soon and I had hoped to make it as airtight as possible. As a result I do not want to use trickle vents but an MVRH solution seems expensive and the duct runs could prove problematic with the current plans. The PIV solution seems to be ideal but I am intrigued as to how the stale air / moisture will be pushed out the building if it is so air tight? I fear the pressure might build too much and make opening the door difficult! I can send plans over if that would be useful? Thanks

    Question by Joe Williams, 01-02-2017

    Hello Joe

The term ''airtight'' when relating to domestic dwellings should be taken in context in that they are only referred to as air tight for the minimising of heat loss, it is a building industry term in relation to that and that alone.
There is no way a domestic dwelling can be truly airtight as 80% of the building material it is constructed from is air permeable. Your dwelling will also probably have key holes in external doors and possibly a letterbox, windows and doors have very good weather tight seals but they are not that good! You are building a home not a compression /decompression chamber.

Don't be afraid of letting fresh air into your home or, for that matter pollutants out!

The construction of your property will use a vast range preservatives and chemicals in the process including volatile organic compounds, found in building preservation materials, cement mortar, paints, lacquers and paint strippers, varnishes, waxes and intumescent coatings, all of this will be leaching out for many years after construction.
You will also fill the internal environment with household cleaning supplies, pesticides (eg fly spray and moth repellants), air fresheners, and dry-cleaned clothing. Your soft furnishings will contain flame retardant chemicals and your carpets and possibly wooden floors will contain formaldhyde (new carpet smell).
Now lets add in computers, printers etc (CFC's) or plain household dust (dirt and dead skin cells) without other possibilities such as animals and animal dander, radon gas etc. etc. etc.........
Quite a toxic cloud and this is not to mention highinternal humidity, condensation and mould spores or dust mite activitythat has been identified to be one of the biggest contributors to the increasein asthma.
Don't be too concerned over a couple of trickle vents contributing to energy bills or global warming, they can always be closed!

    THATCH PROPERTY

Hi, my friends are raving about this product and could you tell me would it be suitable for a cottage with a thatched roof . Thanks tina

    Question by TINA ENTWISLE, 27-11-2017

    Hello Tina

    Your question raises several others.
Is the loft well ventilated through eaves or airbricks in gable end walls?
The installation instructions do suggest inspecting the loft to see if you can see daylight in several areas or feel draughts?
If the loft is not well ventilated the next question is can improved ventilation be installed?

    which Drimaster model

Hi there, we have a 2 storey stone cottage with stairwell and loft and a single floor extension to the rear with several extra rooms. Will a single unit in the loft serve the whole house, or would we need to provide a second duct to the extension? Which model would be appropriate?

    Question by Simon Newman, 28-11-2017

    Hello Simon
The standard unit with hall control (controls accessible from the diffuser) should suffice and would suggest this first and monitor over following few weeks, the unit can be found in search bar entering QS45546.
Please note the systems are designed to work with adequate extraction in the bathrooms, kitchens and utility rooms.

    damp in attic space

Will the basic nuadri unit cure the dripping wet bitumen felt in my attic especially noticable in cold frosty conditions

    Question by Lyn Doran, 29-11-2017

    Hi Lyn

What you describe is condensation and the indication that you have condensation in your loft points to a lackof ventilation to the loft void, inspect from outside to see if you have slateor tile vents, or ridge tile vents, if there are none the loft ventilation mayhave been provided by overhanging eaves or soffit vents, if the last two, condensation problems can sometimes be a result of loft insulation being rolledtight into the eaves cutting off this means of airflow.

If you installed the Dri Master under these circumstances it would not controlcondensation in your house or the loft as the means of drawing air into thevoid are not sufficient for either.

The installation instructions for this unit begin with the loftinspection below.

Checkto ensure that the loft has adequate ventilation. There may be occasions wherea loft is so well sealed that additional ventilation may have to be provided bythe owner/occupier.

Oncethe loft ventilation has been increased or reinstated (rolling back the insulationat several points or installing sections of open ducting to clear an air paththrough it) the installation of the Dri Master can go ahead and the throughflow of air to the void on the way to the dwelling will create air change andair movement causing surface evaporation and eventual drying of the void andthe dwelling.

    Question by maurice, 01-12-2017

    Hello Maurice

Thank you for your question. The unit has to be fitted in a ventilated loft hanging via the loft joist. The diffuser is fitted in the ceiling of the hall so that the air is dispersed through the property. If i can help any further please do not hesitate to contact me

    Loft Question

If we install this in the loft but at a later date want to change the loft into a room can we box this in but still allow it access to outside air? Also would this device need clearance around it (im thinking if we put an enclosure around it)? If we did box it in couls we put tile vents in to allow the device to bring in outside air? Thanks

    Question by Neil Ridgway, 05-02-2021

Good morning Neil. It wouldn't be advised to box it in, as it needs to draw fresh air into it. If you are creating a room in the loft, you would need to consider where you will be installing the Drimaster. You may well need tile vents to draw in the fresh air. It might be worth consulting Nuaire technical before purchasing the unit, just to be on the safe side.

    Heater

Can you turn the heater off on the unit and just have cold air.

    Question by Dennis swinhoe, 06-01-2024

Good morning Dennis. The DRO-ECO-LC does not have a heater. The only models that do have a heater (presuming the property is 2-storey) are DRI-ECO-HEAT-HCS and DRI-ECO-HEAT-HC. The latter model has RF, so if you purchase the additional 4-way switch with it, that will allow you to disable the heater. The only other way would be to pull the plug out from the heater, or you can turn the heater dial down to 5 degrees. The Fan normally goes on Standby when the temperature drops below 5 degree C.

    Kind regards,
    Marc
